SHIRLEY KAY NICKELSON

    Shirley Kay Nickelson, 22, of Anchorage, Alaska, died on Sept. 4 in a plane crash near Juneau.
    Miss Nickelson was born on Feb. 5, 1949 in Butte, Montana, to Mr. and Mrs. Robert B. Nickelson.  She attended schools in Thermopolis and graduated from Hot Springs County High School in 1966.  She graduated from Cottey College in 1968.  She was employed as a secretary for Mobile Oil Co. for two years in Los Angeles and was transferred to Anchorage in 1970. Survivors include her parents of Thermopolis; one sister, Mrs. Sharon Santini of Pasadena, Calif., and her grandmother, Mrs. Cecile Steadman of Thermopolis.
    Funeral services will be held at Mortimore Chapel at 2:00 p.m. on Sept. 17.  The Rev. Ben Gum will officiate and burial will be in Monument Hill Cemetery.  Pall bearers will be John Thomas, Pete Christensen, Chuck Strezsak, Wayne Christensen, Bob Parker and Dave Haratyk.  Honorary bearers are Judy Johnstone, Joyce Howard, Diane Besson, DeeAnn Simpson, Charla DePoyster and Sheryll Meader.

LOCAL RESIDENT KILLED IN ALASKAN PLANE CRASH
    Shirley Kay Nickelson, daughter of Mrs. and Mrs. Robert Nickelson, was killed in an Alaskan plane crash on Sept. 4.     An Alaskan Air Lines plane crashed about noon on Saturday approximately eight minutes before reaching its destination of Juneau on a flight from Anchorage.  All 111 persons aboard, including the crew, were killed in the accident.  The crash occurred in extremely rugged terrain and to date only 45 of the victims have been recovered.   Miss Nickelson was born on Feb. 5, 1949, in Butte, Montana.  She graduated from Hot Springs County High School in 1966.  At the time of her death she was employed by Mobile Oil Co. in Anchorage.     The body will be sent to Thermopolis for burial following recovery and identification.
