RICHARD SIMONS
Funeral services for Richard Ray Simons, son of Mr. and Mrs. Roy Simons, were held Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the First Baptist Church with the Rev. Harley M. Pulis officiating. He was born Sept. 21, 1947 at Great Bend, Kan.  He had lived in the Thermopolis area for the past seven years. He was taken ill suddenly Thursday, entered Memorial Hospital and died early Friday morning following surgery. A member of the Boy Scouts, he took an active part in scouting.  He was a sophomore at Hot Springs County High School and was an outstanding member of the high school band.  He played drums in the band and was also active in the drum ensemble and high school chorus. An employee of J.C. Penney Co., he worked part-time during the school year.

Surviving are his parents, two brothers, Fred of Lignite, N.D., and Larry of Long Beach, Calif.; three sisters, Mrs. Patricia Smith of Long Beach, Mrs. Linda Kear of Pampa, Tex., and Christine of the family home.
    Miss Sue Watkins sang "Goodnight and Goodmorning" and "Beyond the Sunset."  She was accompanied by Mrs. James Hooper on the organ.  The High School Chorus sang "Choral Benediction" for the service. Pallbearers were Jack Chopping, Larry Ireland, Roger Durham, Mike Harper, Wedg Taylor, and Randy Wahler.  The members of the Sophomore Class were the honorary pallbearers. Burial was held in Monument Hill Cemetery with the Mortimore Funeral Home in charge. "Thermopolis Independent Record" April 1964
